Dr. Barclay Barrios is a nationally recognized professor, author, and academic leader whose work sits at the intersection of composition, pedagogy, and social justice. As Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Broward Campuses for Florida Atlantic University’s Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the undergraduate experience—overseeing everything from recruitment and advising to degree completion and student success initiatives.

His scholarship spans queer theory, writing program administration, and the evolving role of technology in the classroom. With over two decades of experience in higher education, Dr. Barrios has authored widely used textbooks such as Emerging: Contemporary Readings for Writers and Intelligence, and continues to influence how writing is taught across disciplines.

Whether mentoring students, developing curriculum, or speaking on national platforms, he is driven by a belief that education should empower, challenge, and transform. His work emphasizes sustainable, antiracist academic practices and a commitment to student-centered innovation.

Outside of academia, Dr. Barrios brings the same energy and discipline to weightlifting, partner dancing, and the culinary arts—especially baking. A New Orleans native, his passion for food and movement reflects a life fully engaged with culture, community, and creativity.
